Are Your Shift Linkages Improperly Adjusted?

If your transmission is acting up, the problem isn’t necessarily with the transmission itself, but with one of the devices or mechanisms attached to it. At Dave & Wayne Auto Center in Bethlehem, we know a lot of people out there just accept when something goes wrong and learn to live with it. Dealing with an inconvenience is better than replacing a transmission, right? Fortunately, many transmission issues are actually simple fixes, and are well worth doing.

One such issue is improperly adjusted shift linkages. If it’s hard to find gears when you shift, your gear indicator doesn’t match what gear you’re in, or the shifter seems to bind and lock up whenever you move in and out of gear, you probably need a simple linkage adjustment. Over time, linkages shift, bushings break, bolts come loose, and tolerances change. Eventually, your shifter can become a hassle, making every gear change a struggle. By re-adjusting the linkage, your vehicle will be quickly and easily restored to its glory days, when it shifted like it was designed to do.

If you’re having trouble shifting, you’re tired of guessing at gears, or your shifter doesn’t operate as well as it should, let our expert mechanics take a look.
